Does anyone else hate New Year’s Eve?

Okay, it’s just us without any significant others. The rest of you suck. There are tons of things going on in the city. A “Nappy” Villa Fontana. Tons of stuff on Fourth Street Live. Not to mention everything going on in my little snobby neighborhood. (see previous post) Of course, there are tons of “Christian” new year’s events. Communing with the Lord is good. Remember the most important lessons, Christians: Love thy neighbor as thyself and Judge not lest ye be judged. I’m going to be with my family and Dick Clark (he’s still alive, right?). We never go out and get drunk and party. This time of year is the time we reflect: We made it another year!!!! Another year we didn’t lose weight or stop over-indulging in sweets or save more money. But we made it. We didn’t get killed on I-71. We didn’t wreck the car. We didn’t lose any major loved ones. We didn’t get fired. We just lived, learned, and made it. Sh!t, I sound positive. Oh well, it’s about to be a new year. I can change (a little). Happy New Year, Louisville!

Actually, I loathe New Year's, too, and I have a significant other--have had for 30 years. I don't like "imposed" milestones, people acting as though Dec. 31st requires you to have an hysterically good time while deeply evaluating your life, yourself, your future. Bah. MY "new year" is September when the summer ends, the crisper weather comes in and I feel like I come back to life.

Believe me, you aren't alone. Most of the people I know would like to skip directly from 12/30 to 1/1 without all the hype.

No, it's not just those without significant others, believe me. I've been with my husband for 30 years, and I LOATHE New Year's Eve. I dislike any situation in which you "have" to celebrate and are made to feel like a freak if you aren't have just best darn time of your life. I don't even consider this my personal "new year"--for me, that's in September when the cooler weather arrives and I come back to life.

Many of my friends are equally put off by this "holiday" and would happily go straight from 12/30 to 1/1, bypassing the nonsense.

Yep, I do. Have for a LONG time, and I have a significant other--have had for 30 years. Believe me, many of my friends and family members would happily skip directly from 12/30 to 1/1, bypassing all the hype.

(If you end up with 3 very similar comments from me, I apologize. They didn't seem to be going through, so I tried a couple more times.)
