Overwhelming

In my recent issue of Newsweek, they profile one of the greatest American Philanthropist: Oprah. If you don’t like her, you really need to examine your world view. Really. Of course, you can never agree with someone all of the time. That is purely stupid and naive. Not only is it stupid and naïve, but it shows a mind that is undeveloped and unformed---one that has absolutely no critical thinking skills. If you seriously examine your mistrust or dislike for her you will know it is from yourself and not her. I was overcome with tears after reading and reviewing her website about her school in South Africa: Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls. It was described in detail and it sounds grand, exquisite, beautiful, and luxurious. No expense was spared from uniforms to dorm rooms to china patterns. These special girls will be cultivated and nurtured to bring the African women and children (and then hopefully the men) out of the darkness of ignorance, tribalism, and economic oppression. Many in the country and out think “why is she spending so much on these girls.” Because they need it. Because they deserve it. Because the Lord has made it so through Oprah’s generosity, love and goodness. Giving money to a foundation that provides food, clothing, shelter and medicine is very important. Especially in any part of Africa. But this is a tool of change that will effect generations. This will transform. This will make it possible that one day the many peoples and countries of Africa will someday be able to give charity to other countries because they will have abundance. I wept and wept for all the invisible, forgotten, mistreated, abused, disregarded, ignored, hated Black women and girls in this country, in Africa, and all over the world. So easily ignored by everyone. So easily blamed by everyone. So easily unnoticed by everyone. Oprah you are the angel. You are the Lord’s gift. Thank you from one of the many women who fight to be visible, remembered, adored, regarded, seen, and loved. May I one day be able to give one tenth of what you have given the world.
